bonobo LLCは、役目を終えたアンティーク着物をアップサイクルして新たな価値を創造する事業 “ikasu”を展開しています。このたび、ikasuは、ISETAN SALONE1階にて新作品を展示します。
5月に、中東最大規模のアートフェア World Art Dubaiで、日本の伝統芸術の蘇った姿を世界の人々に紹介し、優れた実績を収めたikasuは日本に戻り、代官山T蔦屋書店のギャラリーにて展示を終え、ISETAN SALONE1階にて更に新作を展示します。
今回の企画は、Kimono Momという世界的インフルエンサーが主催し、彼女がキュレーションし、愛用しているものを一つの場所に集めたPOP UPストアのイベントです。
Kimono Mom（着物マム）は、京都出身の元舞妓・芸妓のMOEさん。英語を交えて日本の家庭料理の作り方や、ママの実像を届ける動画を発信しており、海外で絶大な人気を誇っています。SNS総フォロワー数は500万人以上に迫ります。
2023年末、ikasuのアーティスト岡本レーナがKimono MomのYouTube動画に出演し、使えなくなった着物のアップサイクルについて会話をしながら着物生地を使ったファブリックパネルの製作のワークショップを行いました。
動画が話題を呼び、20万回以上再生されました。
Kimono Momさんが今回のイベントのために厳選したものの一つ、ikasuの作品たち。着物マイスター資格を持ち、クリエイティブディレクターとしても活躍する外国人アーティストが、膨大な時間と労力をかけ日本全国を回り、作品へ生まれ変わらせるアンティーク着物を厳選しています。額にはアンティークの桐たんすを活かすなど、オールアップサイクルを目指しています。
日本以外でも、アメリカ、カナダ、シンガポール、スウェーデン、マレーシア、イギリス、スイス、UAEの家や店舗でご愛好頂いています。

■ ikasuとは
着物に第二の人生を。
日本の家庭には膨大な着物や帯が眠っていると言われています。しかしながら、着る機会もなく、お手入れが大変で保管スペースも必要なため、次世代に渡らず廃棄する家庭が増えています。ikasuは、着物や帯はただの服ではなく、持ち主の大切な思い出であり、着物作家の素敵な作品であり、日本の誇る伝統文化であるという考え方で、着物を生かしたいと強く思いながら作品制作に取り組んでおります。
着物は「着る芸術」とも言われており、日本の伝統的な技術で、一つ一つ手作業で、織り・染色・刺繍・装飾された一点ものの芸術品です。ikasuはその一点一点の作品が持つ、歴史、技術、文様、物語を受け継ぎ、尊重しながら、現代空間に似合うアート作品として生まれ変わらせます。

■ 課題解決
ikasuの取り組みは衣服の廃棄問題の解決にも寄与しており、SDGsの「12 つくる責任 つかう責任」を支援する役割を果たしています。着物や帯は裏地まで丁寧に加工し、「ゴミゼロ」、「廃棄着物ゼロ」を目指しています。

Kimono re-create team ikasu exhibiting new works at ISETAN SALONE (Roppongi Tokyo-midtown)
ikasu creates new value by up-cycling antique kimonos that can’t be used as clothes anymore. This time, ikasu will exhibit new works at ISETAN SALONE.
In May, ikasu introduced the world to the revitalized traditional Japanese art at World Art Dubai, the largest art fair in the Middle East, and achieved remarkable success. Now back in Japan, ikasu did an exhibition at Daikanyama Tsutaya, and now they will showcase new works at ISETAN SALONE.
This event is a pop-up store organized by the world-renowned influencer, Kimono Mom, featuring a curated collection of her favorite items all in one place. Kimono Mom is MOE, a former maiko and geiko from Kyoto. She shares videos on how to make Japanese home-cooked meals and the realities of motherhood, mixing in English, and has gained immense popularity overseas. Her total number of followers on social media is approaching 5 million.
At the end of 2023, ikasu artist Lena Okamoto appeared in a Kimono Mom YouTube video. They discussed upcycling kimonos that can no longer be worn while conducting a workshop on creating fabric panels using kimono fabric. The video gained significant attention, garnering over 200,000 views.
One of the carefully selected items for this event by Kimono Mom is the works of ikasu. A non-Japanese artist, who holds a kimono master qualification and also works as a creative director, spends a tremendous amount of time and effort traveling across Japan to select antique kimonos that will be transformed into new works. The goal is ultimate upcycled art work, including the use of antique paulownia wood kiritansu chests for the frames.
In addition to Japan, ikasu’s works are cherished in homes and stores in the United States, Canada, Singapore, Sweden, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and the UAE.

Re-creating kimono.
It is said that a vast number of kimonos and obis are stored in Japanese households. However, with few opportunities to wear them, the difficulty of maintenance, and the need for storage space, more and more families are choosing to discard these items rather than pass them down to the next generation. At ikasu, they strongly believe that kimonos and obis are not merely clothing, but cherished memories of their owners, wonderful works of kimono artisans, and proud elements of Japan’s traditional culture. With this belief, ikasu is dedicated to creating works that breathe new life into these kimonos.
Kimonos are often referred to as “wearable art,” crafted with traditional Japanese techniques. Each piece is a unique work of art, painstakingly woven, dyed, embroidered, and decorated by hand. At ikasu, they respect and inherit the history, techniques, patterns, and stories embedded in each of these pieces, transforming them into contemporary art that fits modern spaces while preserving their essence.
